1 thought on “The Purity Myth”

  1. I really want to read this book. Not so long ago I came across a BBC documentary on Youtube called “The Virgin Daughters”, wonder if you’ve seen it? I remember thinking while watching it, do those people live in the 16th century? Of course, I’m no stranger to the “no sex before marriage” message, having been involved in evangelical Christianity myself, but those “purity balls” just creep me out. I’m all for teenagers waiting to have sex until they know they are ready, but this old-fashioned fathers-owning-their-daughters-until-marriage thing is just… wrong. Besides, not everybody marries right out of high school. And if they don’t marry at all, what are they supposed to be, nuns for the rest of their life? Hmmm…
