Earlier this month, I started working at a local bookstore. Yes, bookstores still exist, but I do hear customers complaining often about their bookstores (in other cities) shutting down. It sounds like when Borders went out of business, it left a lot of cities without bookstores and customers traveling to get their hands on actual books.
During my training, we did a store tour and my manager explained that we’re in a very conservative area so we often stock books by George Bush and Glenn Beck. I should’ve known. I live outside of Los Angeles in a city that’s primarily older, white, retired people. It didn’t click until yesterday when I sold half a dozen books by Glenn Beck. A) I didn’t know Glenn Beck wrote so many books and B) I didn’t realize people enjoyed his books…at all.
